Clinton Institute for American Studies

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN
16-22 July 2007

The Clinton Institute Summer School will bring together scholars and graduate students from around the world to engage in wide-ranging discussion in the interdisciplinary field of American Studies. The School is aimed at advanced graduate students and junior faculty in American Studies and its cognate fields (English, History, Cultural Studies, Political Science). The program will offer participants the opportunity to work with pre-eminent figures in these fields and to investigate current developments in various branches of American Studies. The School’s format will consist of two principle components, daily workshop seminars and plenary lectures.
Participants work with the School’s core faculty of distinguished scholars in one of four week-long seminars. Workshop themes will be announced once core faculty are confirmed but will include topics such as ‘Postnational American Studies’ and ‘American Culture and Globalization’.
All participants will be expected to present a sample of their research in the workshops. Graduate students will participate in a graduate symposium at the end of the School program.
In 2007 the core faculty will include Donald Pease (Dartmouth College) and
Werner Sollors (Harvard University). Throughout the week, a visiting faculty will join the School program as lecturers and respondents.
